The Georgia Conservancy (TGC) is a membership organization dedicated to the responsible stewardship and protection of Georgia's natural resources. In addition to offering field trips and symposiums throughout the year, teacher education workshops, and a quarterly environmental education newsletter, TGC provides outreach programs for K-12 school children. Each April TGC sponsors a Youth Environmental Symposium for middle and high school students.

The 588-acre park encompasses maritime forest, salt marsh, tidal creeks, freshwater sloughs, and Civil War earthworks. The 1-mile sandpiper trail and the 4-mile big ferry trail wander through marsh and maritime forest. A colonial coast birding trail site, the park is a nesting site for the rare painted bunting. Camping sites and picnic shelters available.

The stateís only salt-water Aquarium offers the best opportunity to see and understand the amazing ocean life found in the waters off the coast of Georgia. Wild animals in their habitat appeal to city slickers and nature lovers alike. Oatland Island Education Center, located just east of Savannah on a 175-acre marsh island, is home to more than 50 indigenous mammals and birds of coastal Georgia. Bison, timber wolves, black bears, bald eagles, Florida panthers, and alligators all live in large natural enclosures along the self-guiding 1.75-mile Discovery Trail.
